Last Word records your voice, because that's the whole point of it. Those recordings stay on your phone — the only time audio leaves your device is when you choose to use an AI feature, and we'll be specific about that below.
There are no accounts. We don't ask for your name, your email, or your phone number, and we don't have a server that stores anything about you — because we don't run a server at all.
What the app handles
Everything Last Word touches, and where it goes:
Recordings of your roundsOn deviceEvery round is recorded so you can play it back and decide whether to keep it. Recordings are written to the app's own storage on your phone. If you don't save a round, the file is deleted the next time you start one.
Saved takes and their word listsOn deviceTakes you choose to save, along with the target words the game gave you for that round. Stored on your phone until you delete them.
Audio sent for an AI featureSent to GoogleWhen you play a round against the AI, or turn on AI rating, that round's recording is sent to Google's Gemini service so it can write a reply or score your verse. This only happens for rounds where you asked for it.
Whether you have a subscriptionOn deviceA yes/no flag and the product you bought, remembered so the app works offline. Your payment details never reach the app — Apple and Google handle the transaction.
How many AI uses you've madeOn deviceTwo counters, kept so free uses and the daily limit work. They're numbers on your phone, not a profile.
App authenticity checkSent to Google & AppleBefore an AI request goes out, the app proves it's the genuine app and not a copy, using Apple's App Attest or Google's Play Integrity. This confirms the app and device are real. It doesn't identify you.
FontsSent to GoogleThe app loads its typefaces from Google Fonts, which means your device makes a request to Google's font service. Like any web request, that reveals your IP address to Google.
When your voice leaves your device
Only two things send audio anywhere, and you choose both:
Playing against the AI. The mode can't work without it — your verse is sent so the AI can write one back.
AI rating. An off-by-default switch in every mode. Turn it on and the round's recording is sent to be scored.
Playing solo, playing another person, and playing the pre-written computer opponent send nothing. Those modes work with no internet connection at all.
The audio goes to Google, who process it and return the AI's text. What Google does with data sent to their AI services is governed by their terms, not ours — see the Google Privacy Policy. We don't receive a copy, and we have nowhere to store one.
What we don't do
No accounts, logins, names, or email addresses.
No analytics or usage tracking of any kind.
No advertising, and no advertising identifiers.
No crash or performance reporting.
No tracking you across other apps or websites, and nothing sold or shared with data brokers.
No location data, contacts, photos, or calendar access.
Subscriptions and payments
Subscriptions are sold and processed by Apple's App Store or Google Play. They handle the payment and tell the app one thing: whether you're subscribed. We never see your card, your billing address, or your store account.
Manage or cancel a subscription in your App Store or Google Play account settings — not in this app, which has no ability to charge you.
Your choices
Don't record at all. Deny the microphone permission, or turn it off later in your phone's settings. The game still runs; there's just nothing to play back.
Keep everything on your device. Leave the AI features alone. Nothing you record is transmitted.
Delete a take. Delete it from your library in the app, and the audio file goes with it.
Delete everything. Uninstall the app. All recordings, saved takes and counters live in the app's own storage and are removed with it.
Because we hold nothing about you on any server, there is nothing for us to look up, export, or delete on your behalf — deleting on your device is a complete deletion. If you're covered by the GDPR, the UK GDPR, or the CCPA/CPRA, the rights those laws give you (access, correction, deletion, portability, and opting out of sale or sharing) are satisfied by this: we hold no personal data to act on, and we don't sell or share any.
Children
Last Word isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect anything from them. Since we collect no personal information from anyone, there is nothing we'd hold about a child either. If you believe a child has used the AI features and you want to raise it with us, contact us at the address below.
Changes
If the app starts handling data differently, this page changes with it and the "last updated" date at the top moves. Material changes will be noted in the app's release notes rather than made quietly.
